Several months ago I was real busy working on my garden making sure everything look tip-top. Old leaves and debris were all over the place so they had to be cleaned up; compost pile had to be maintained, weeding plus other tedious but kind of fun garden maintenance stuff.
As I was cleaning up some garden vegetable beds and adding several new plants, I suddenly realized that my garden would look so much better if I jazz it up with a number of dog lawn ornaments or dog garden statues—like my good friend Jason’s garden. However, that guy has way too many life-size statues of animals in his garden. His garden looks pretty creepy, especially at night.
Anyway, why garden statues of dogs? Why not cats or rabbits?
Well, I do love cats actually and I may get a few cat garden statues too in the future. I’m not so fond of rabbits though. Now, there are maybe thousands of dog garden statues you can find in the marketplace. You are probably at loss as to which statues are worthy to be placed in your garden.
For me, the two most vital criteria are how it looks and how it holds up. So if you want to get your hands on some fantastic looking garden statues of dogs that are also pretty durable, then you might want to have a look at the choices below.
Beautifully Sculpted Dog Garden Statues
Beagle Dog Statue
It was until after I unboxed this statue, and took a good long look at the whole sculpt that I was struck with how disturbing it was—disturbingly realistic. This is one of the most popular dog breeds in the world, and the kids like it a lot. The dimensions of the statue are 15.5 x 8 x 22 inches, weighs approximately 8 pounds and is made up of polyresin.
Looking at the statue closely, particularly the facial area. Well, the details are just great! Love the eyes, the nose, the shape of the ears—all the hallmarks of a truly adorable Beagle dog. The pose is good, nothing fancy. From a reasonable distance, it looks like a real dog. Highly recommend this.
Brutus the English Bulldog Garden Statue
WOW, just take a look at this Bulldog garden statue…The look on Brutus’s face says three things, “What chu want, what chu want, what chu want?” And the way he posed up indicates that he’s ready for an all-out-mayhem with anyone who messes with your vegetable bed. It’s a pose of a garden warrior champ dog, plain and simple.
This amazingly crafted statue weighs around 17 pounds and the dimensions are 29 x 11.5 x 15.5 inches. Real crushed stone bonded with designer resin was used to produce this statue so when it comes to durability, you have nothing to worry about.
Attention to detail is very high, although the tail really should be smaller. I’ve never seen a bulldog in real life with such a big tail, and curving upwards like Brutus’s. Still overall, it’s definitely a high-class sculpt and the facial detail is really, really good.
Westie Outdoor Statue, Dover White
The Westie’s coat is instantly recognizable and the facial detail is phenomenal. Plenty of due care and attention was put into this statue. It’s unfortunate that the size is rather small. The dimensions are 8 x 8 x 15.25 and weighs approximately 9.5 pounds.
This Westie statue is composed of marble dust and resin, giving it that concrete appearance and feel. Of course it is lighter than concrete and holds up well, so there’s little maintenance involved.
Since it is small, you can even display it on the shelf. It won’t take up a disproportionate amount of shelf (or fireplace mantle) space. All in all, a decent choice if you’re into Westie breed and want a great-attention-to-detail statue of it in your garden.
Greyhound Sentinel Garden Dog Statue
Here’s an expertly crafted statue of a Greyhound. The pose is excellent and so is the detail. Our Greyhound here is about 2.5 feet tall so the height is just right. Even better, you could buy a set of 2 Greyhound statues and place one on each side of your garden’s entryway. That will look really darn cool.
The dimensions are 30 x 8.5 x 11 inches and weighs in at around 10 pounds. This Greyhound sculpt is reasonably sized and tall, which means it will be a serious eye-catcher in your garden. The sculpting and detail are fantastic. I wouldn’t expect Design Toscano to produce anything less than that.
This statue looks really cool and for any Greyhound fan, there’s no other reason needed to justify getting this one while it is still available.
Airedale Terrier Garden Dog Statue
I’m constantly amazed that artists and sculptors are able to create lifelike dog statues such as this one. It’s really great to see that All Line went the extra mile with loads of lifelike details on the statue.
This Airedale has a formidable expression on its face. Place this in your garden and then take a real good look at its face. You can actually imagine it saying something like, “Don’t go near them roses boyo!”
The sculpting and paint application are awesome. From the small details, like the stick in its mouth to the larger details such as its wiry, ragged coat. All Line pretty much nails the likeness and attitude of the dog breed in one shot. The dimensions are 18 x 9.5 x 13.5 inches and weighs in at 7.11 pounds.
Cocker Spaniel Puppy Garden Statue
Goodness me…the expression on this Cocker Spaniel is just downright adorable. It’s disgustingly cute so I just had to get one. Fortunately the price is a steal. Praise is a constant with this statue. My wife says it’s soooo cute, the kids agree, friends and neighbors too.
This Cocker Spaniel pup statue is crafted out of polyresin and protected with UV coating, which means you can put it outside and not worry about it getting damaged by the sun.
The dimensions of this Cocker Spaniel pup statue are 9.5 x 10 x 6 inches, and the weight is pretty hefty at 38 pounds. Just kidding! It’s only around 3 pounds plus.
This is an awesome looking statue in general, but for fans of the Cocker Spaniel breed—which appears on just about every list of most wanted dog breeds—this would be money well spent.
Fire Hydrant Pooch Sculptural Fountain
We should be clear on one thing. Although this statue/fountain combo looks rather tall in the photo, its height is only about 24.5 inches tall in real life. The actual dimensions are 24.5 x 15.5 x 13 inches and weighs 16 pounds. For me, the fountain is a breeze to set up.
I’ve set up fountains such as this several times before, but if this is your first time, you might experience a tad bit of trouble. Instructions are provided, but they aren’t clear enough, hence the “tad bit of trouble.” Still, I’m sure you’ll figure it out because it’s quite straightforward on the whole.
The detail of the statue is very good. There are many lines and curves on the dog, bird, boot and fire hydrant giving the sculpture an almost realistic appearance. It comes with an LED light kit. All in all, one of the best dog lawn ornaments for the money.
Labrador Puppy 16″ Cast Cement Statue
This cutie is crafted of cast cement statue so you can bet that it has some real weight to it. How heavy? Try 55 pounds! Yes, it’s that heavy especially when you take into account that the dimensions are just 16″H x 9.5″W x 9″D.
Thanks to its high durability concrete mixture which is resistant to frost, the statue is capable of withstanding most weather conditions. The detail on the body is nice. The facial detail is good, too. The eyes seem just slightly “off” to me—it’s hard to put my finger on it. Just doesn’t look quite natural to me.
French Bull Dog Garden Statue
Of all the dog breeds on this planet, the Bulldog is probably one of my top 3 favorites because Bulldogs have a badass appearance yet they actually look pretty cute. Realistic looking and black in color, this French Bulldog statue is practically a work of art. And as strange as it may sound, this French Bulldog actually has hints of Hector the Bulldog of Looney Tunes fame.
Obviously they don’t look alike but I feel the hints are there. The paint application does a wonderful job bringing out the detail of the statue. There’s no specific area of detail that trumps the rest—it’s all very good from end to end. The dimensions are 20” L x 10” W x 14” H and recommended for fans of Bulldogs.
Beagle Puppy Garden Statue
Well look it here, another ridiculously cute lifelike looking puppy statue that fits just about any home garden. It weighs only 2 pounds and the dimensions are 5.1-Inch x 8.2-Inch x 8-Inch tall.
According to the marketing information, the statue itself is “Hand-made from durable high-quality polyresin and then hand painted.” I’ll take this information at face value. Handmade to the point that it looks realistically cute is an accomplishment in itself.
The hues and tones of the colors—the brown/black combo on the dog’s back is killer—indicate a high level of craftsmanship. There’s no oversplash to speak of. I feel like I got a great deal on a statue that’s a great addition to my garden.
Dog Gone Bad Peeing Garden Bulldog Statue
This statue is a riot. Like the other statues in Design Toscano’s stable, this piece is superbly crafted with excellent hand painted colors making the markings look rather real. The attention to detail is great, though possibly, the only point of contention would be with the facial expression; there’s something about the eyes. Otherwise, it’s like the statue stepped out of a painting and a very good display piece.
The statue weighs 3 pounds and its dimensions are 7 x 12 x 4 inches. Hand casted out of resin and is water-resistant. This naughty little bulldog is really small, but will add a dose of humor to your garden.
Dog in Meditation Statue
Here’s another humorous dog garden statue. The dimensions are 4.53 x 3.35 x 3.74 inches and weighs under a pound. Yes, it’s a very small piece. I love the detail on the dog‘s face as well as his Zen expression. Actually the attention to detail extends to the rest of the figure. The sculpting quality is still very high, even if the large bell on the collar kind of detracts from the face.
The bell can be easily removed with the right tool however. I’m sure there are some people out there that will break-out a pair of pliers to remove the bell and replace it with something else—probably something smaller and less detracting.
Sleeping Angel Devotional Remembrance Marker
If you’re looking for a well made marker for your beloved pet’s grave, this would be a good choice. What a beautiful piece by Clovers Garden. The dimensions are 12.4 x 8.4 x 8 inches and weighs in at 2.8 pounds.
There’s a touching message on the side of the base that says, “Good night my friend…until we meet again.” The black text serves as a perfect contrast to the stone colored piece. I think the stone color actually helps bring out the overall detail of the statue.
Dog Angel Memorial Marker
Also by Clovers Garden. I prefer this design over the above, but they are both beautiful pieces. This one has a different inscription that says, “You come into our lives, leave paw prints on our hearts, and we are forever changed.” The dimensions are Length 5.25″ x Width 5″ x Height 9.75” and weighs close to 4 pounds.
Small Sleeping Dog in Angel’s Wing Garden Statue
If you’re looking for a smaller pet grave marker, you might want to have a look at this cream colored piece by Napco. It’s only 4 x 4 x 8 inches and weighs less than a pound. The inscription on it says, “No Longer By My Side, But Forever In My Heart.”
Polystone Dog in Wing Decor
This statue looks similar to the one above, but it’s fully painted and the sculpt has more detail. The butterfly on the pup is a nice touch. The dimensions are 5.3 x 6.3 x 9.3 inches and weighs in at 1.45 pounds.
Golden Labrador Retriever Statue
Garden statues of dogs have been selling well for years and Design Toscano just keeps getting better and better with each new product that comes out. Luckily for collectors of dog garden statues (but not for their wallets), Design Toscano was able to produce this stunning piece of statue which stands 15.5 inches tall. The statue’s dimensions are 9″ x 9″ x 15.5″ and its weight is just 2 pounds.
This Golden Labrador statue sports some very impressive markings. It doesn’t look too fat or bulky. There are some very realistic looking muscles on its body, and the paint job looks very nice. I’m sure there would be very few nitpicks. If I had to think of one, looking over it again and again, I think the size should be bigger.
Cocker Spaniel Puppy Statue, Medium, Brown
Michael Carr Designs strikes again with yet another ultra cute puppy garden statue. This one has a lot of details including a really cute mouth, impressive hair texture sculpt on both ears and, of course, cutesy eyes. It is also very well painted.
I can imagine long wavy coat being hard to sculpt, but Michael Carr Designs has done a great job with the hair. Not many inexpensive dog lawn ornaments possess such a first-rate sculpt. Its brown color blends perfectly with my garden teak wood furniture. The dimensions of this statue are 6 x 10 x 9.5 inches and it weighs around 3 pounds.
Shiba Inu Dog Statue
A lot of Shiba Inu fanatics (including myself) were willing to shell out extra cash to get this ultimate Shiba Inu statue. This is one of the best looking dog garden statues I’ve ever owned. It’s a true work of art. Due to the realistic sculpted details, this Shiba Inu statue looks frighteningly real and I couldn’t ask for anything more.
If I had one big complaint about All Line statues, it’s that they make almost everything else in my collection look like second-rate. If you’re a collector and a Shiba Inu fan, forget about any other statues and be willing to shell out the cash for this piece. Dimensions are 19.5 x 10 x 16.5 inches and weighs 9.3 pounds.
“Want Some?” Cute Chihuahua Dog Un-Welcome Statue
I bought a small Chihuahua statue a while back and the head sculpt was just okay. Unlike that statue, this piece put out by Private Label really shines in the head sculpt. It was beautifully sculpted by a very talented sculptor at Private Label or perhaps, a freelance sculptor or contractor. Looking at the head sculpt, I feel like it just keeps getting better and better.
This is one of the best pieces of Chihuahua garden statue you can buy with the best likeness. The paint application is great and so is the detail. Better yet, this statue comes with a sign that reads, “Welcome” on one side and “You Want Some Of This?” on the other. The dimensions are 12.75 x 10 x 7 inches and weighs 3.75 pounds.
Jack Russell Terrier Dog Welcome Statue
This Jack Russell Terrier comes with a fantastically crafted “Welcome” sign. The overall look of this piece is good, though my only complaint about it is the dog’s expression. Yep, here’s where this affordable piece of art falls a bit short; the head sculpt.
Now, this isn’t a bad looking head because it does look like a Jack Russell Terrier, however, it has a real sad expression on its face. I wouldn’t call it a welcoming expression. It’s like the dog was forced to hold up the sign. Other than that, it’s a pretty decent statue and will look good in any garden or yard.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Statue, Small
Well sculpted cuteness with a little cartoony looking expression. Still, the whole piece looks very convincing as if it’s a real Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy. The details on both ears are very impressive. There are a lot of small details all over. What isn’t impressive however is the name of this breed. It sure rolls of the tongue, eh? Dimensions are 8 x 7 x 5.2 inches and weighs around 2 pounds or so.
Nipper RCA Dog Statue
Design Toscano has become a company that can somehow reliably manage to release a wide range of statues like hot cakes, while maintaining top notch quality sculpts. This statue of the iconic Nipper the RCA Dog is no exception. It is a beautiful statue and he looks like he’s about to look into your garden plants. Dimensions are 8″Wx19″Dx22.5″H and weighs 12 pounds.
Adorable Labrador Retriever Garden Welcome Statue
This statue comes packed with a removable sign, sculpted to resemble a small wooden sign outcropping, which attaches to a leather collar that can also be removed. On one side of the sign, there’s an inscription that says “Lab Lovers Welcome (Others Tolerated)” and “Don’t Stop Retrievin” on the other.
Once you’ve placed it on a spot in your garden, with the sign set up, there’s not much more to do than stand back and appreciate the detail. The detail is not bad and the sculpt is good, but the dog does look a little angry to me. Dimensions are 13.5 x 9.25 x 5 inches and weighs 7 pounds.
Solar Powered Labrador with Lantern Statue
I feel I should get this off my chest right away. I have been known to possess some very bad luck when it comes to garden statues with lanterns/solar LED lights, and that has me very paranoid with this particular statue. With some solar LED light dog lawn ornaments, you’ll notice the lights stop working over a short period of time.
Hopefully, this will not be the case with this solar powered Labrador. I have not seen any complaints yet regarding the LED specifically, which is good and I have faith in Moonrays.
The statue is all made of polyresin with dimensions of 18.5 x 13.6 x 9.7 inches, and weighs slightly over 3 pounds. A wonderful sculpt overall and the color changing, solar powered LED looks real nice at night.
Shih Tzu Puppy Statue, Small
Talk about one of the most insanely cute Shih Tzu puppy statues around! The sculpt in addition to the paint applications are terrific. Just what you would expect from Michael Carr Designs.
When it comes to small and cute looking garden statues of dogs and puppies, everything looks as close as you could get to perfect and Michael Carr Designs never seems to fail in this department. It all just looks very clean. The dimensions are 9 x 5.5 x 8 inches and weighs in at about 2 pounds.
Long-Haired Collie Dog Statue
Some phenomenal work here and Design Toscano sure knows how to please their fans when it comes to highly detailed dog garden statues. This is not a particularly pricey piece. It sometimes look near museum quality and not many below $100 statues will top it. If you can manage to get your hands on one of these, it will certainly be worth it. The dimensions are 10.5″Wx8.5″Dx15″H and weighs about 3 pounds.
Highland Terrier Digging Dog Statue
A very simple sculpt, but still looks great though. It has that unique look since most dog garden statues I see out there are full-bodied. The dirt mound isn’t included however. 12″Wx8″Dx10″H inches and weighs about 2 pounds.
Yorkshire Terrier Puppy Statue, Small
I really do think this is a great statue representation of the female Yorkshire Terrier pup. The details of the sculpt are fantastic, especially with the puppy’s fur around the facial area. I tend to look first at the facial sculpt of any statue.
If there’s effort there, with the most difficult parts of a sculpt, then the rest of the statue is on the same level. The puppy’s looking straight ahead face is very well sculpted and painted. There’s no oversplash and the expression is very well done. Dimensions are 8.1 x 5 x 7 inches, weighs 2 pounds and very much worth the money because of the high level of detail and flawless sculpting.
Golden Retriever Puppy Dog Gutter Guardian Downspout Statue
I didn’t actually plan on buying this statue. I am by no means a collector of Golden retriever statues like my friend Janice, but if there’s a sculpt I actually found cool and disgustingly cute, I can make an exception and this one nicely fits my rectangular-shaped downspouts. Please note that it fits the standard rectangular downspouts up to 2½”x3″.
The sculpt is like a very nice recreation from a photo of a painting I saw in a magazine. Who knows, maybe the pose is taken right from that painting. If that is the case, the sculptor did an excellent job recapturing the subject matter in a completely different medium.
He or she really managed to bring this puppy dog to life. I could be wrong though. Perhaps he took a picture of his own dog…Anyway, both the head and body sculpt are nicely done and the puppy looks at you in a relax, adorable manner, which is the appropriate expression for her since she’s just chilling on the log.
From what I hear, downspout-type garden dog statues can be hit or miss sometimes, but I can honestly say that this one is top notch as far as quality control goes. The dimensions by the way are 9″Wx6″Dx7.5″H and weighs only 2 pounds.
Shih Tzu Sitting Black/White Statue
This Shih Tzu coat surprised me with how well the sculpting was done. I did a little research but could not find out who sculpted this piece. Whoever that person is, he or she is a master in the statue sculpting department. It really shows here because the coat on the chest especially is sculpted to perfection.
The folds of the fur look so real and I can’t help but be envious of the sculptor’s talent. I do a little sculpting myself on the side and I always find clothing or fur folds to be incredibly frustrating, so I can really appreciate the sculptor’s work here.
The black part of the coat is also very nice with lots of detail. The little subtle details between the colors really show how the little things do make a considerable difference. Overall, this is a very nice statue. It’s cute, lifelike and not that pricey. Dimensions are 11″ L x 6″ W x 10.5″ H.
Garden Statues of Dogs – Loads of Variety to Choose From
The statues I’ve listed on this page are not expensive since they are composed of materials such as resin, stone and plastic. These materials are commonly used to produce statues that do not break the bank and are capable of sustaining a variety of weather conditions.
I’ve seen a number of dog garden statues made out of rock, stainless steel, even glass and these are normally quite expensive. You can also get granite and marble ones and as you can imagine, their prices would probably be out of reach for most people. These are chiseled and carved into different shapes and sizes, but lack detail from the handful I’ve seen.
Statues made of ceramic and stainless steel tend to hold up well and are probably impervious to wear and tear. Some people even have wooden animal statues in their yard or garden, which I find puzzling. Obviously these won’t hold up particularly in rainy conditions.
I imagine they would have to bring their wooden statues into the house every time it rains, but what if nobody’s at home? Well, I do not recommend wooden garden statues of dogs at all. I think it’s a waste of money unless you keep them indoors exclusively.
Fiberglass ones are worth a look. Some are downright beautiful! I saw several dog lawn ornaments composed of fiberglass and the details on them are absolutely stunning.
Unfortunately, they are not within my budget at the moment. But if I have some extra cash laying around, I wouldn’t hesitate to get a couple of life size fiberglass dog statues I came across online.
Well whatever the material is, I found that collecting dog garden statues is actually tons of fun because there are endless variety of shapes, sizes and breeds to choose from. Most animal statues look great in just about any garden—Blobfish is one of those exceptions!
If you have a garden statue of a Blobfish and you genuinely think it’s cute, then you must be a genuine weirdo.
Here’s a video of some funny statues of dogs.
